The Airline began its operation on 9 June 1947 as Malayan Airways. The Airline was renamed Malaysian Airways in November 1963 and later became Malaysia-Singapore Airlines, before being reconstituted as the national carrier of Malaysia on 3 April 1971 as Malaysian Airlines System (MAS)
